Multi-Year Renovation Continues

  • Learning Commons & Envelope Improvements

The University of Toledo is continuing its phased renovation of Carlson Library, developing more open commons space for student study, collaboration and interaction. The third phase kicked off construction in December, including both interior and building envelope improvements.

Interior renovations pick up where the previous phase left off, focusing on the first and second floors. The Collaborative’s design team worked with the Library Task Force from the beginning to identify needs, prioritize goals and develop this multi-phase plan. Upgrades include additional huddle and teaming space for informal student gatherings, Veterans’ Lounge, a renovated classroom and new offices.

Work replacing the brick facade with a glass curtainwall is scheduled for Summer 2017. The change will bring natural light to floors two through five.

The building, including previously renovated areas such as the open study spaces on the second floor, will remain open throughout construction.
