Celebrate the View

  • Hartwick College Dedicates Founders' Way

Overlooking the Susquehanna River Valley, Hartwick College features a one-of-a-kind campus experience nestled in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. This summer, the College teamed with The Collaborative to improve the pedestrian paths and vehicular drives on The Hill, as campus is known.

As an extension of the Campus Master Plan, the College sought to rededicate prime real estate and views to pedestrians. Hartwick Drive, from the West Street main entrance to Johnstone Science Center, is now a pedestrian walkway. The walk culminates at a new amphitheater and outdoor gathering space bordering the Science Center. The Collaborative led both the original master plan and the landscape architectural design for these improvements as well as lighting and hardscape design.

Updates to wayfinding and signage help visitors navigate the campus and uplift the College brand within the community.

  • Hartwick's New Residence Hall

The Collaborative also designed a new residence hall, which opened in August 2017. The new 31,000-square-foot facility features two- and four-bedroom apartments, gathering and programming spaces and teaching and study rooms. Its design draws from the architectural language of the campus, with the stairs, columns and exterior materials as direct references to existing buildings.
