Partnership with Frank O. Gehry, internationally renown architect.

Toledo, Ohio Working with Frank O. Gehry on The University of Toledo’s Center for the Visual Arts (CVA) was an exciting experience for The Collaborative! Located adjacent to The Toledo Museum of Art, the CVA is a composite of geometric shapes. The facade, made of lead-coated copper, further distinguishes the sculpturally shaped building from the neo-classical Museum.

Gehry and The Collaborative completed phase one of the project, 51,000 SF housing a theater, reference library, instructional and research space, state-of-the-art studios, and an exhibition gallery. The Collaborative also completed programming for a second phase, a 49,000 SF auditorium and classroom addition.

It was The Collaborative’s challenge to make the design evolve from paper to reality . . . while staying within the client’s budget and timing parameters. The Collaborative was also responsible for working with the University’s art faculty and Museum staff to create the space program for the facility, which became the basis for design work.
