The new headquarters is an investment in efficiency, engagement and increased collaboration.

Maumee, Ohio  After outgrowing their existing facility, The Andersons began a nationwide search for an architectural partner.  The Fortune 500 agribusiness organized a design competition and selected The Collaborative from the field.  The Collaborative engaged Perkins + Will to provide Design leadership on the areas of Corporate Planning and Environmental Branding.

The Collaborative first assisted with site evaluation and designed the building for two different sites while land negotiations were underway.   After an extensive process, The Andersons secured land from a former golf course featuring mature trees, rolling terrain and a pond.
With six major business divisions, The Andersons’ new Headquarters can accommodate up to 700 employees, but the space is broken down into relatable neighborhoods, balanced between openness and providing a sense of the whole.  With a reduced emphasis on personal space and more on communal space, employees benefit from serendipitous encounters in the café, atrium and other teaming areas.

Nestled on a park-like setting, most of the existing golf course site is preserved, while providing walking trails for employees.  Portions of manicured lawn are being restored back to a native Northwest Ohio prairie. The design truly maximizes views and natural light to the workstations for improved employee productivity.  The facility is an investment in the well-being of their team members with anticipated returns in efficiency, engagement and increased collaboration.  As The Andersons continues to grow, its Headquarters is a point of pride and a recruitment and retention tool.
