Most Notable Item in My Office
My goal was to make the most notable part of my office be its relaxed environment. I want people to know my door is always open, so they will feel welcome to stop by, have a seat in the comfortable chairs, and simply enjoy a conversation.
El Dorado, Arkansas
As a child, I truly enjoyed the time I spent playing in the woods and the creek at the back of my parent’s property. I’m positive those moments played a role in becoming a Landscape Architect.
In My Spare Time
I like to garden.
A key to effective design and decision making is understanding the site. Examining how people interact with it should influence the design so that the most effective environments can be developed.
Design Passion / Area of Specialty
Master Planning. I enjoy looking at the big picture and working at 100 scale. It’s about thinking beyond the pieces and stepping back to look at the puzzle as a whole.
Favorite Building Material or Design Element
Handmade clay brick and natural stone. They are honest materials that are of the earth – a machine simply cannot replicate them. There’s just something about building with native materials that are readily available to the site. It makes each project unique to its region.
If Not a Landscape Architect, I Would Be
A History Teacher
Favorite Technological Gadget
I’m not really a technology person – although I really value my phone for its ability to keep me in touch. To be honest, there are times I wish technology wasn’t so prevalent. While it makes us efficient, sometimes it seems like we’ve lost our ability to connect and socialize on a more personal level.
Favorite Time of Day
That’s easy, mornings. More specifically, right before the sun comes up, when the birds start chirping and you can just begin to see the light on the horizon. I feel rested and ready for a fresh new day with new beginnings.
