Most Notable Item in My Office
An extensive gallery of large format family photos, accompanied by a collection of my kids’ artwork. There’s no better way to feel at home in your workspace.
Toledo Hospital on Christmas Day
When I think of memories, my mind is instantly drawn to vacations. I have to say hiking with my dad in various National Parks would be toward the top. Nothing makes you appreciate a destination more than knowing it was an achievement just to get there.
In My Spare Time
I like to keep busy by tinkering, fixing things and watching my kids play sports. I also enjoying building things, from our dining room table to home additions and renovations. It’s good to get away from the stress, yet still be able to make use of my skills.
It’s all about performance. While I love elegant, lightweight, glass architecture, it just can’t be justified in this climate. A building should be responsive to its users, tailored to their needs, and easily adaptable.
Design Passion / Area of Specialty
Sustainability. More specifically low energy. A lot of technique is involved throughout all of the building systems in order to accomplish such a feat. Working on college campuses would be another one. I like how the buildings sit in a context. They aren’t simply a stand-alone facility, they relate to a larger picture.

Favorite Technological Gadget
My Android phone – it can be used for everything.
Favorite Time of Day
Real late at night after our youngest has finally stopped getting out of bed. It may only be a window of a few minutes before falling asleep myself, but I’ll take it. Relaxing quiet time is precious, however short it may be.
